I'm ready to rock. It would be fun to jump right into "Easy Valley" but maybe an introductory ride would be better for any potential new comers.

the first ride like we did last year was good just as a meet and greet so to speak for new people. i say we stick to the hours/day like we had the last couple years which i think steve brought up.

That sounds like a different thread.

I agree with just jumping in at Egypt Valley.

I haven't ridden or worked out since last years biking season so it'll be an ass kicking regardless, but it's more fun to hit the trails.

i'll have to put some air in the tires and some quick prep work.

FWIW I seem to recall something about it not being cool to ride too early in the season for susatainabilty reasons. Can't find anything on the MMBA site though so f-it.

Hey Guys - I'm a newb to this ride and am interested. Where is the meeting place, etc, etc. Also - I'm no pro on the bike either - hopefully no big deal...

Hey guys, How late in the year does this ride go? I'm moving to the Grand Rapids area in the fall for school and I'd be down to hit some trails.

The more the merrier! None of us are pros by any means, some are more physically fit than others. Me personally I haven't ridden my bike since last fall and haven't worked out once since then either. The beer and pizza are going to be killing me this ride for sure :)

These trails are also known as the Cannonsburg State Game Area. A helmet is always recommended and most all of us wear one. Most of us ride pretty simple older bikes as well. I ride a 10+ year old Diamond Back. Typically if the group is split up by skill (or endurance....) some will hang back at the road points to regroup so we don't leave any single stragglers.

As for the meeting point, there is a parking lot at the trailhead on 4 Mile Road. The green and red indicators on this map show the parking lot location...

As for getting to the trailhead, if you're coming from GR, the easiest way to get there is to take the Beltline North from 96, take a right (east) on Knapp, Left (north) on Egypt Valley, then turn Right (east) on 4-Mile. A couple hundred yards down on your right hand side will be the parking lot. Watch out for bikers :) Look for the scraggly VW owners mingling.

Here's a zoomed out shot of the trails in reference to GR to give you an idea where it's at...

Per the MMBA forums, the trail is in good shape except for a few avoidable spots...

This was posted yesterday (3/27/09): "Rode 2 laps today. The trail is in great shape and is completely rideable. Only one soft spot."

                              General Trail conditions discussion here:
                              http://www.mmba.org/forum/viewtopic....98f5&start=480

I also found this over there which is pretty neat. GPS based mapping of most all the local trails from riders who record then upload the trails. You can enter most of our trails in the searchbox on the site and get a GPS map from someone else's ride.. Check it out.
