  • b8 a4 timing chain issues

So, Car ran a little rough, then wouldn't start. Had it towed to a service facility, they told me the timing chain broke and a valve punctured the cylinder head. Anyone have any advice on what direction I should take rather than going with their $8000 quote for a new engine? Currently has about 75k miles.

The engine could be partially salvageable. It depends on the extent of the damage. Is the 8k for a new long block? There may be some used options.

They told me one of the pistons had a hole in it from the valves. This was the first shop/person I've had look at it. Stealership ballparked 15k. The car wouldn't turn over but was idling rough for the trip before it crapped out. After doing some reading, it looks like these cars have issues with the timing chain tensioner on occasion.

Anyway you look at it, this blows
