I would check the oil level, see if its low. If it isnt then drain it and check for metal. If there is none, check your thermostat for proper working condition.
Let us know how those look.A big Ford 4x4, a Deeeeezle BMW and a air cooled flat six

Same thing happened on my old 16v rocco. Ended up being the oil pump. There's a check valve in it that stuck closed on mine. Caused the o-rings in the pump to blow out. If that's the original oil pump, you may want to look at replacing it.97 Cabby..... Low, slow and topless..

If the oil temp and water temp increase at the same rate I'd bet on there being a coolant problem and not an oiling issue. 16V's use a water jacketed oil cooler (oil cooled by coolant) and if your thermostat is stuck both temps will rise.I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

No metal flakes in the oil, so took it for a little drive, it did fine.
Came home, let it sit running to see what it would do. Same thing...oil temp rose, water temp rose, oil light blinking. Coolant was bubbling.
So.....looks like the thermostat. One is on order. Hopefully that's it and nothing happened in the meantime.Doug

Nothing really funny happened, no weird noises, but the water temp and the oil temp started rising.
I just changed the oil last week.
The rising oil temp and water temp does sound like a sticking closed thermostat. From cold to warm my water gauge can go up to about 3/4 of they way. With the oil temp on my MFA can go to about on a good hot day 210 to almost 225 is the highest its seen on a 90-95 degree dayDave
Mk2 issues got you down? Got a question? PM me, and i'll try and help you out for what I can.

228 deg F is about the highest I saw the MFA go while driving (before I let it cook out of control while idling).Doug

I found a loose ground wire in the engine bay today. I had just moved the car a few feet in the driveway (by power of the engine), and I bumped this wire, which grounded it against the intake manifold, and the radiator fan kicked on. I think this might be my coolant high temp issue - NOT the thermostat.
Anyway, the wire comes from part of the harness that also has the wires that plug straight into the cat. I'll try to grab a photo - any ideas where this plugs in? (The end is a thin metal "2-prong opening" open plug).Doug

do these cams look OK? I had the valve cover off to replace the gasket...and i dont have enough experience to know if this wear is normal or not.
