  • "test pipe" install

I'm looking at doing a header back install on my 97 vr6. I was wondering if I eliminate my sensors on the cat will it effect how the car runs, or just turn on the check engine light?

heck yeah it'll effect how the car runs! the o2 sensors monitor the exhaust to see how much air/ Hydro carbons (unburnt fuel) is in there and tells the ecu to compensate from there.. BUT you can use them with you test pipe, you just gotta trick them into thinking everything is okie dokie.

    do this: http://www.scoobymods.com/rear-o2-se...ix-t5468.html?

p.s. where are you getting this test pipe?

Only oxygen sensor pre-cat affects fuel trim. The o2 sensor in the cat will only cause the CEL to be on. No running issues with second 02 sensor eliminated.

I am looking at getting the header from raceland, which has a bung for the first sensor. As far as the test pipe, I have to find one or have one made.

The 42dd has a test pipe kind of expensive tho. Otherwise you could just drill a hole in the exhaust and weld a nut in with the same threads as the o2 sensor and you would be good but still throw a cel, but hell whats another cel lol.

I had a OBX header on my VR for a while and let me tell you I felt like I lost power. Especially in the upper rpms. I then ported my cast stock exhaust manifolds and got the TT downpipe and noticed a HUGE difference throughout the powerband. I currently have been running that along with the 42dd test pipe and 2.5 autotech catback and absolutely love it. I would recommend it to all VR6 owners. Most if not all aftermarket headers have been proven to NOT give any gains on a VR6.
I do aluminum polishing and portwork. I do heads, manifolds, throttle bodies, exhaust manifolds. 16v, 8v, VR6, etc. PM me for details.

i'll be looking for one for the 16v soon. does the non-fowler work on a o2 sensor on the front of the cat?

                  Non-fouler on front O2 = fail
                  Non-fouler on rear O2 = win

No need to trick the front sensor. If you have a bung in the header for it just plug in and go. The rear needs to be tricked because it measures the effectiveness of the catalyst, and since you won't have one it needs a little tricking.....
