  • Mk7 gti pp

Well It was bye bye MK6 and Hello MK7 finally....after a long winded process of trying to get a car(Dan knows the full history...lol) I finally picked up my 2016 PP GTI. Lighting package being the only option. 6MT, Night Blue Metallic.

The process dragged on long enough into 2016 model that now I get MIBII infortainment and standard back up camera. Android Auto integration is nice.

Will take more non-phone photo after the car gets some tint and detailed next week...need to put on some miles before heading to Oscoda for a weekend of autocrossing...

I see a new exhaust lurking under there and it doesn't look like the MK6 Magnaflow. . .

          Details?

Ultimate Racing Catback. I opted for dual muffler but no resonator version. Lost about 20lb to the stock system. Pretty loud in the car though....

Weigh the car in full autoX trim and its 2960lb....

2961, actually...Took the spare, rear floor cover, and the jack out. With the catback, and the heavier H&R rear bar. The car is sitting on Enkei Fujin 17x7.5 on 245/40/17. Basically lightly prepped for SCCA GS class.

                    How does the exhaust sound?
                    Better than the MK6 w/Magnaflow?

That is pretty damn light....what'd the MK6 weigh in at?

At the similar level of running weight(with more gas), its about 3002 when I last weighed it.

Its kinda loud on the inside of the car in city traffic, past 3-4k it definitely is loud. Highway speed its just as quiet as stock, and MK7 gearing means its sitting at a nice and low 2300rpm or something at 70mph. Windows down its just about perfect volume. Its not as bassy tonally as the Magnaflow.

The best part of the car so far is the MPG...wow this gets much better mileage than my MK6...

                          Nice!

                          These pp cars are tempting.

In the MK6 I'd have to really try, like driving 66-68mph on interstate to get over 30 MPG. This thing will do 33-34 doing 80 all day....last time mixed highway/street driving is 30. The tank is smaller than MK6 but I am doing very similar range.

It feels subjectively every bit as fast as the stage 1 tuned MK6 in pretty much all aspect. I test drove a non-PP car eons ago and it didn't feel this quick. I'd be curious to see someone's stock dyno curve on a PP car. On autoX course the tall 2nd gear is pretty nice, and the car is quite a different driving experience than the MK6 was since it has such a positive front end response that my MK6 never did.

Also H&R 26mm rear bar is quite stiff...
