Potting Resin???

I have to wait to get the part I filling. I am using a stator cover (the whole casting) from a 1969 Honda CT70 for the clock. I am using the larger cover for clock but there is an opening next to it for random do-dads that serves no purpose and is very odd shaped. I want to fill that.

What size gaps? Depending on the size hobby shops have a lot of good filler options used for gundam model building and such.

What about epoxy? I used epoxy to fill a busted corner on a filter for a fish tank. Not sure if black is an option though.

I thought of using a fiberglass resin/bondo type thing but I would like it to be black. Didn't know if you could dye resin.

Good morning all,

I am working on a cool DIY clock gift for my wifes uncle for Christmas. I need to fill some voids in an odd shape and was hoping to use something like potting resin (used to fill gaps and protect components in electronics) but found that actual potting resin is hella expensive.

Has anyone used RTV for this and got a result that didn't look like crap? I would like the finished surface to be smooth and somewhat glossy if possible. I found a few YouTube vids but nothing that had a good "finished product" shot.
